The capital of Palena
Province boasts 3,500 inhabitants, it is important as a port for ferries
to Puerto Montt and Quellon and is a growing center for adventure tourism
and fishing excursions. Off shore there is a Sea Lion colony on Puduguapi
Island that can be visited by boat.
Much of the city was
damaged in the volcano of 2008. But the tourism structure has been restored.
Of course it is a gathering center for those wishing to study volcanology,
or just tourists that want to view one of the most perfect active volcanos
