Vina Del Mar is the sister city to the largest Chilean seaport, Valparaiso, which it actually borders, "Vina" as the Chileans call it is Chile's "Riviera". Vina Del Mar means vinyard of the ocean because of its close proximity to Chile's major wine producing region. As much as Valparaiso is a commercial seaport Vina Del Mar is a stylish resort with hotels ( from B&B's to 5 star), casinos, restaurants, night clubs, swimming beaches and complete resort facilities. Only 120 KM (75 miles) by car from Sanitago (on a very nice divided highway), it is Santiago's playground and can be crowded in the summer, Chile's summer, months (October to May).

In Vina you should dress dress smart for restaurants and the Casino, otherwise cut-offs and almost any swimming attire is welcome..but watch the sun. It can be intense in the summer in the Southen hemisphere. It is an especially inviting place for Cruise Ship passengers, either before they board or after they disembark in Valparaiso.
